This new site coincides with the publication of my new book, Look Both Ways: Illustrated Essays on the Intersection of Life and Design. It is a book about life, art, love, design, tunes, brands, poetry, shame, and even physics. In many ways, it is the culmination of 26 years of working, and probably took its first shape when I began my radio show on design and culture, Design Matters, nearly five years ago.
Described as “A truly life-affirming gift,” Look Both Ways was selected as 1 of 77 Righteous Gifts this year’s edition of Core77’s 77 Gifts under $77.
Fellow New Yorker and friend Michael Surtees has taken the time to photograph Look Both Ways in some rather flattering views. Here is a sampling from what you can find alongside his review.
At 79NM, the blog of the School of Graphic Design at the at the Academy of Art University, a some thoughts from the students who participated in the first Visual Storytelling workshop: “‘This is a really good break from a stressful end of the semester. It doesn’t’ feel like work, it feels like playtime. When she talks to you, she makes you feel like you know her,’ said graphic design undergrad Beau Monroe.”
My first “Visual Storytelling” Workshop at Academy of Art University with the graduate and undergraduate honors students of Mary Scott and Phil Hamlett. An extraordinary day completely coordinated by the lovely and amazing Pamela Williams. A few images in this post, and the rest can be seen in this Flickr set. All photos copyright Bob Toy.
